The Valoris team believes governance, stewardship and sustainability are hard, but worth it. All three are essential to long-term investment returns and successful enterprises. Effective investor stewardship requires imbedding systematic consideration of environmental and social factors at all stages of decision-making. Governance (both investor and corporate) is the essential catalyst at the center of this. There are no cookie-cutter solutions to operationalizing investor stewardship. Every investor faces the challenge of applying the core principles of governance, stewardship and sustainability in ways that complement and build upon its unique investment beliefs, style, objectives, processes and resources (especially human resources).

Beginning long before the concept of environmental, social and governance (ESG) went mainstream, Valoris’s founders have collectively spent more than eight decades working across the whole spectrum of public and private sector banks and institutional investors to support portfolio companies and borrowers to implement better governance and sustainability practices. Our experience with development finance in particular leaves us convinced that careful, thoughtful, practical implementation of the principles of corporate governance, investor stewardship and enterprise sustainability yields tangible long-term returns for financial stakeholders, while at the same time contributing to a better world.

Helping investors, financial institutions and others navigate the complex ecosystems around governance, stewardship and sustainability is what drives us at Valoris. We decided to combine our experience and talents because we believe that together we can help a greater number of institutional investors, financial institutions and others meet the constant challenge of implementing stewardship in evermore systematic, complete and effective fashion.

Our firm is led by long-time practitioners, not academics or career consultants. So, pragmatism is part of Valoris’s DNA. Our practical approach means we favor workable solutions that are as simple as practicable, but never simplistic. Our team recognizes that each Valoris client is unique across many dimensions and merits tailored solutions to suit its special circumstances. At least one Valoris partner leads every engagement to ensure that every one of our clients gets the full benefit of Valoris’s unique value proposition and the service it deserves.

The Ibex

Making effective investor stewardship a reality can seem like climbing a steep rocky mountain without marked trails or an experienced guide. We at Valoris draw inspiration from the Alpine Ibex (Capra ibex), which advances seemingly effortlessly to the top of the mountain, rarely losing her balance, always remaining nimble and overcoming all obstacles. We aim to emulate the Ibex’s determination, agility and grace in all the work that we do for our clients.
